Celebrating Entrepreneurship

New York, NY (May 2, 2018) Celebrating Entrepreneurship: A Half-Century of MIT's Growth and Impact is a firsthand account of the past, present, and future of entrepreneurship at MIT from Edward B. Roberts, the man who has led those endeavors since the beginning. Roberts has created a three-part history of the seminal role of MIT’s faculty and alumni in: (1) transforming entrepreneurship into a discipline worthy of rigorous academic study; (2) forming and building the many organizations that constitute the “MIT entrepreneurial ecosystem”; and (3) founding and investing in thousands of startup companies, while pioneering new industries. Celebrating Entrepreneurship showcases how the unique atmosphere at MIT, encapsulated in its motto mens et manus, encourages its innovators to thrive: a dedication to both technological advances from within MIT’s laboratories — the mind — and the means to actualize their vision — the hand.

His scholarship focuses on advanced technology management and entrepreneurship, and he founded and chairs the Martin Trust Center for MIT Entrepreneurship. The Legal Imagination

New York, NY (April 12, 2018) — Wolters Kluwer Legal & Regulatory announced the publication of the 45th Anniversary Edition of The Legal Imagination with a new foreword by the author James Boyd White, available for purchase at wklegaledu.com.

First published in 1973, The Legal Imagination helped pioneer the law and literature movement, by breaking convention and urging students to understand the law beyond memorization, “to trust and follow their curiosity” and to come to terms with the nature and potential limits of legal language.

In this anniversary edition, the new foreword introduces the original unabridged text, and challenges a new generation of readers to understand the language of the law through the prism of literature. "This wonderful book helped me learn what it means to be a teacher,” says Mark Weisberg, Professor of Law Emeritus, Queen’s University. “I have learned to listen more than speak and to focus on helping each student discover their unique gift and bring them to their work. This book changed my students’ lives and my own.”

White encourages the reader to analyze legal and non-legal literature, including excerpts from Robert Frost, Plato, James Joyce, Albert Camus, Leo Tolstoy, and Emily Dickinson. By juxtaposing examples of legal writing alongside poetry, philosophy, and literary criticism, White frames thought-provoking discussions on topics that intersect both legal and non-legal discourse.

About the Author: James Boyd White is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. During his teaching career, he was the Hart Wright Professor of Law, Professor of English, and Adjunct Professor of Classics at the University of Michigan. Among his books on law and the humanities are Living Speech, Justice as Translation, and When Words Lose Their Meaning.

112th AALS Annual Meeting

San Diego, CA (January 6, 2018) – The Froebe Group is a proud two-time sponsor of the Annual Meeting of the Association of American Law Schools (AALS), one of the largest gatherings of law educators in the world. The 112th conference, held at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina, featured 250 discussion sessions and 900 speakers.

AALS President, Paul Marcus of William and Mary Law School, addressed attendees on the opening day of the conference. Speaking toward this year’s theme, “Access to Justice,” Marcus reflected on the “many difficulties we see in our nation as to providing adequate legal representation to all.” His affecting remarks highlighted the role of educators in the promotion of and advocacy for justice as a democratic right.

A highly anticipated highlight of the conference was the opportunity to mingle with distinguished law educators. With more than 50 networking events planned, conference rooms were abuzz with lively discussion.

“After closely collaborating all year with the Wolters Kluwer legal education team, meeting them in person at AALS provides us with a wonderful opportunity to create stronger partnerships,” commented Kathy Langone, Director of Development. “Being able to mingle with so many of the authors, often for the first time, is also an invaluable way to cultivate successful relationships – a strong tenet of the Froebe Group.”

Tom Daughhetee, Director of Production, added, “Not only has it been enjoyable to catch up with so many authors that we have the pleasure of working with for WK legal education, but this year many of our discussions have led to some innovative solutions to improve existing practices and operations. We've been able to start dialogues that will inevitably strengthen our long-term relationships.”

AAUP Annual Conference (2017)

Austin, TX (June 13, 2017) – A year after exhibiting at the 2016 event, The Froebe Group proudly sponsored the 2017 Association of American University Presses annual meeting. The three-day event, held at the J.W. Marriot hotel in Austin, Texas, was attended by over 675 university press representatives, staff members, and service providers.

Dan Rather, journalist and former CBS Evening News anchor, delivered this year’s keynote address. His impassioned speech touched upon the increasingly important role of publishers in upholding journalistic integrity. Mr. Rather emphasized the unique position of UPs to shape academic narrative.

The conference also featured a wide array of panels and discussions, many of which focused on the challenges of modern university press publishing. Editorial directors offered listeners fascinating insights into the innovative ways that many presses are working and growing despite the ongoing trend of budget cuts.

“While the mission of university presses essentially remains the same,” noted Troy Froebe, CEO, who was in attendance, “the ways in which they are achieving their goals is in transition. We feel like we are poised to help with this transition.”

About the Association of University Presses: AUPresses is an organization of 143 international nonprofit scholarly publishers. 111th AALS Annual Meeting

San Francisco, CA (January 7, 2017) — The Froebe Group was a proud sponsor at this year’s Annual Meeting of the Association of American Law Schools (AALS), held at the Hilton San Francisco Union Square. The event was attended by over 2,500 law professors, faculty, and legal service providers.

The three-day conference theme was “Why Law Matters.” AALS president Kellye Testy noted that now, more than ever, the case needs to be made for why law matters in American society. It is urgent and important that the academy has a clear conviction of its mission — especially in the current environment where many aspects of law are troubled. John Cribbet, then dean of the University of Illinois College of Law, wrote in a 1974 article that this is the “silent raison d’etre of legal education and the lasting claim for public and private support of the law schools.”

The conference featured over 250 discussion panels on hot-button topics such as the current state of policing and the future of transgender student rights legislation. It also presented attendees with a variety of formal and informal networking opportunities.

"We work closely throughout the year with the Wolters Kluwer legal education team," noted Tom Daughhetee, Director of Production at TFG. "Having this conference during the first week of January presents us with an amazing event where we can celebrate the success of the past year with our client, while also planning ahead for the year to come."

TFG Opens West Coast Office

Los Angeles, CA (September 1, 2016) — The Froebe Group has officially arrived in the Hollywood Hills. Located at the base of Runyon Canyon, the new location will serve as an extension of the NYC office, allowing TFG to strengthen its existing relationships with West Coast clients while also supporting the company’s growth strategy.

“With so many authors located nearby from our key account of Wolters Kluwer, establishing a footprint in California seemed like a natural decision,” commented Kathy Langone, Director of Development. “Maintaining strong relationships with the authors of our partner has always been a core tenet. The new office also promotes greater communication and collaboration with our New York office."

Troy Froebe, CEO, added, "Although Los Angeles isn't commonly considered a publishing hub, it has a rich tradition of groundbreaking writers in both traditional and academic publishing. We are fans of many mainstream and eclectic California publishers like ABC-CLIO, the University of California Press, Sage Publishing, Santa Monica Press, and TASCHEN America. We hope that our presence out here will allow us to establish connections with some of these inspiring publishers."

AAUP Annual Conference (2016)

Philadelphia, PA (June 13, 2016) — The inaugural trip of The Froebe Group to the Association of University Presses (AAUP) annual conference was a great success. This year’s conference, with the headline of “Energize & Innovate,” was held at the landmark PSFS building, the first international style skyscraper in the United States, now the Loews Philadelphia hotel. The event was attended by over 702 university press representatives and publishing vendors.

Six team members from TFG attended the conference. Everyone agreed that the conference allowed TFG to better understand what university presses need from service providers. “Listening to the panel discussions at the diverse sessions widened our perspective,” noted Sunil Kumar, Director of Digital and Marketing Services.“I definitely came away with a better perspective of how to serve publishers in the university space.”

“We want to thank all the university press representatives who stopped by our table to learn more about our team and services,” said Troy Froebe, CEO. “We look forward to working with these people in the future. Last, we want to send a huge thank you to the AAUP team that organized this event. We look forward to sponsoring the conference in 2017.”
